Sorrowful Deception (poem)

sorrowful deception (poster)

(The following is an imaginative work and does not represent the poet)

Sadness pervades my existence,
Hope eludes my hand.
Despair fills my soul,
My future is unplanned.

Whispers of sorrow roam the halls
Like spectres from a world untold.
The weight of oblivion crushes my eyes,
The reality of futility curtails my tries.

A slug in a dense bog,
Peering ahead at intense smog.
Cog in a broken machine.
Heart like a dilapidated bed
With springs jutting out and loose threads.

Till unholy time are hours spent,
Fleeing questions of great import.
Preoccupation with carpe diem,
Life lived in the present
At the expense of more tense
Events tomorrow.
Horrors yet to show.
Mind’s bliss maintained
Through ignorance galore.

Sweet lies caress a stressed head
Like empty promises made by a best friend
Till the allure of some urgent demand
Beckoned him away,
Away from your call.

Inanimate friends,
Soulless by choice.
Presence equal to absence,
Like the absence of light
To direct towards a direction
Away from harm.

An optimistic moment appears
And lends cheer in a silent room
Filled with one man
Overthrown by gloom.

But like the moon’s deception,
The light was a lie.
An eternal night awaits.
Another sad song
Life plays.
A tragicomedy without laughter;
The perfect plot
For a sadist author.
